A Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS)

Analyzing Your Multi-Tiered System of Support for Behavior (MTSS-B)

A Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) is built to ensure that layers of support are available to meet students’ varied needs and to help all students thrive. This session provides an overview of a Multi-Tiered System of Support approach to behavior and gives you the opportunity to assess strengths and weaknesses of your current system. Reflect on where you are in your MTSS process, learn about what is being done in other districts, and get an overview of the range of approaches and resources Safe & Civil Schools can provide to support your district across all three behavioral tiers.

You will leave this session with concrete ideas for implementation and begin thinking about ways to effectively address areas of need, including:

  • Using a comprehensive, team-based approach to address schoolwide climate and safety
  • Creating strong, positive leadership that works to coordinate MTSS-B efforts with other initiatives at the district level and in each building
  • Implementing an effective classroom management approach across all classrooms and helping all teachers implement classroom-based interventions
  • Designing systematic approaches and interventions for Tier 2 and 3 behavioral needs

This session is for members of your district and building leadership teams (directors, MTSS/PBIS/climate and safety coordinators, assistant superintendents, superintendents, building principals/APs, PBIS team members, etc.) who are responsible for planning for district or building implementation of systems of support for behavior.

Please do not invite individuals whose responsibilities are tied to the classroom or specific common areas (e.g., teachers, paraprofessionals) unless they also have responsibilities for broader decisions about building/district implementation AND will be attending with members of building/district leadership.
